History

Indian Head Massage has been practiced in India for well over 1,000 years.  It has its roots in an ancient system of medicine, Ayurveda, which was developed some 5,000 years ago in the Himalayan region of the Indian sub continent.  Originally, women used the technique to keep their long hair in a healthy condition.  It is believed that the secret behind the growth of lustrous hair is regular massage of the scalp with oils.

What is it?
Indian Head Massage is a specific therapy for the head, neck, shoulders, upper arms and upper back and also the face.  Therefore, it covers the vulnerable areas where we are most likely to suffer from stress and tension.  Scalp massage stimulates the circulation of blood.  This has a nourishing effect on the roots of the hair, and so helps to prevent hair loss.  It is for this reason that men too can benefit from this treatment – and from the relaxation that head massage
brings.

Indian head massage is done sitting in a chair with the upper clothes removed and a sarong or towel placed around the bust/chest.
